Digitizing Georgia-Pacific’s Supply Chain

When Georgia-Pacific saw that its log scaling and quality review processes were causing inefficiencies, our client knew it was time to implement scalable changes.

Automating and Accelerating the Process

Opportunity

Error prone and inconsistent, the existing manual method of inspection and scaling of logs in the forest products industry was overdue for a more efficient digital solution.

Approach

Our team started with a deep dive with other technology partners to define the requirements for the project. Then we developed a mobile app to integrate with back-end technology. This gave the Georgia-Pacific team the ability to scale to meet multiple future configurations for paper and pulp facilities.

Solution

An integrated mobile app now gives drivers the ability to easily enter their purchase order information and weigh loads, while computer visioning technology along with AI and machine learning conducts QA of the inbound wood and fiber.

Efficiency to Scale

For Georgia-Pacific, the work, and paper, intensive process of weighing and grading over 2 million truckloads of timber and wood fiber, was overdue for a digital update.

Physical to Digital

Working closely with internal stakeholders, we developed an integrated mobile app that gives drivers the ability to easily enter their purchase order information and weigh loads, while computer visioning technology and AI and machine learning conducts QA of the inbound wood and fiber.

To ensure a future-proof experience, the mobile app was designed and developed to offer the ability to scale and meet multiple future configurations for paper and pulp facilities.

A Simple, Intuitive App

A simple user interface makes the app easy-to-use for drivers, and integrates with technologies at the scaling location to automatically start capturing information when the driver arrives. The design also allows for new steps, workflows, and configurations and site locations as users are added.
